I just received a nifty little creation of William Mittelman's that I ordered from his website, Bill's Custom Cases.

Bill started making his own cases back in 1982 which is a decently long time ago; it's the year I was born, actually. He hand makes everything from his home down in Oregon and can make a case to fit damn near anything. He is also one hell of a guy.

This is what I got; Bill calls it the Urban Wallet:

The larger slip pocket is for my iPhone, which isn't in there obviously, because it's taking the pictures. Bill custom made this for me specifically to fit the iPhone. I was sick of not being able to carry anything but the phone in my pocket lest I put some gouges in it's pretty little screen.

This nifty wallet fits perfectly in a typical front pocket of a pair of jeans or shorts. In addition to the slip pockets on the front, there are 2 zippered sections which are big enough to store all sorts of things. I currently have my phone, a flashlight, a pen, a tiny Leatherman, some tweezers, and a Gerber Artifact, which I'll talk more about later. I just got the wallet a few days ago so I haven't quite figured out what's best to carry in it. Bill includes some credit card sleeves though, so it's possible to use it as a normal wallet as well.

It's a very well designed piece. With very little practice, I can easily reach into my pocket and grab anything that's not zipped up. If I need to get to the toys that I don't use very often, like the Leatherman, I just take the wallet out. I never planned on using it to hold my knives, as I like to have those in my right pocket, but that's another thing that many people store in it.

The craftsmanship is impressive. Bill does a very good job with these, he uses good materials, and he stands by his work. It's hard to find those qualities these days.

But how much did it cost, right? After shipping, it was $24. Hand made, in America, good materials, and the guy actually wants to talk with you on the phone before he makes it just to make sure he understands exactly what your needs are.
